Media Player enables PlayStation 4 users to easily access and play personal photos, music and video files on their TVs that are connected to a PlayStation 4 system. Users can send their files stored in DLNA compatible devices to their PlayStation 4 system via their home network. Users can also enjoy music while playing games, and add files to their “Favourites” so they can easily playback their favorite content. Closed Captions are also available when users are viewing video files. Personal content cannot be shared via the SHARE feature.
If you are using a PlayStation 4 Pro, you can also use Media Player to play 4K video files in mp4 format saved on a USB stick or home server, as well as 4K VR content when using PlayStation VR. Note: You need to be using a 4K-compatible display device in order to view 4K content.
In order to view or play files from an external storage device, such as a USB stick or external harddrive, video and image files must be saved within a folder on your storage device. Music files in particular must be saved within a folder titled 'MUSIC'.
To enable Closed Captions in Media Player simply go to [Settings] > [Accessibility] > [Closed Captions] and select [Display Closed Captions]. Then simply restart Media Player, load up a video and press OPTIONS to activate Closed Captions.

Sony has recently released the PlayStation 4 media player to the world, which can be downloaded simply by clicking the icon on your main PlayStation 4 menu screen. Once downloaded, you might be thinking, how do I use this to play video files? After all, the PlayStation 3 allowed you to not only play videos, but also store them locally on the hard drive. Unfortunately the latter is not possible with the PS4 (yet!), but you can use a USB stick to play your favourite videos, and here’s how.
Supported file formats
WMV is not supported yet, but this feature was added later on in the PS3’s lifecycle as there is a license issue. So this may be added in a future update. JPG, BMP and PNG photos are also supported.
