Long Road Out Of Eden review

The Eagles' first album in twenty eight years

It is actually hard to believe that the last full studio work of the legendary rockers The Eagles was released twenty eight years ago, for its hits including the eternally young Hotel California never cease to be popular. The collective disbanded in 1980 and reunited only in 1994 to release a successful live album Hell Freezes Over. On the turn of the centuries the internal conflicts began once again and ended with Don Felder's leaving the band and the lawsuits to follow from both parties. It is only this year that the remaining members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Timothy B. Schmidt and Joe Walsh are releasing the newest studio effort called Long Road Out Of Eden, the first after 1979's The Long Run. The album has been worked on for almost six years, and it has proved to be worthy of the expectation. Record Long Road Out Of Eden presents a unique collection of twenty songs that have united the past and the present within, for the sound of the album is undoubtedly all The Eagles, and even the modern arrangements have failed to disguise the spirit of the 1980s, present on each track.

Works of art on Long Road Out Of Eden

The themes on Long Road Out Of Eden vary from life stories of misfortunate people to the tough criticism of the modern life styles and ways to make relations. The opener No More Walks In The Wood is a lyrical ballad, accompanied only by a quiet guitar, whereas How Long is a melodious rock-n-roll composition. A country flavor of song Busy Being Fabulous demonstrates the band's classic manner of performance, and Guilty Of The Crime is a funny rock number with the piano. Desperation and cynicism are heard in the lyrics of Waiting In The Weeds, a slow reflexive song. One of the most soulful compositions on the record is No More Cloudy Days with a wonderful instrumental background, while Fast Company is another great track remarkable for Frey's falsetto vocals. A deeply felt philosophic title composition Long Road Out Of Eden leaves no doubt that The Eagles is still able to write texts with a vivid imagery and inimitable metaphors. The track lasts over ten minutes and presents a real work of art. A rhythmic song Frail Grasp On The Big Picture is a superb rock number, and quite a long composition Last Good Time In Town, lasting around seven minutes, is refined with the elements of Latin guitar. A beautiful anthem to women I Love To Watch A Woman Dance is refined with an expressive harmonica, and Business As Usual demonstrates the band members' attitude toward the modern world. The album closes with a beautiful song It's Your World Now pleasing with typical Mexican wind instruments that make it a nice accompaniment for a romantic evening.

Sensational comeback

During the period when The Eagles temporarily ceased to exist some of the collective's members pursued solo careers, and not unsuccessfully. The best received were the works of Henley, but The Eagles' new album has definitely outdone all of them. Long Road Out Of Eden is a varied, solid and thus a very interesting creation. Considering the time spent on the recording of the new material it is not surprising that the result has proved to be more than just satisfactory. Listening to this amazing record you feel like going back in time. The vocalists' soft vocals and the inimitable guitars that can be barely heard or practically deafen the listeners caress the ear as they did thirty years ago, and it seems as if the collective has never disbanded. With its sensational comeback The Eagles have shown everyone that it is never too late to get back the former glory and continue to conquer the fans' hearts with a splendid music. Nobody can say for sure how much time the band's next creation is going to take, and no matter what Long Road Out Of Eden has enough material to make the expectation less difficult.
